The Menagerie has a quiet four-stroke 115 horsepower Mercury engine, ample cooler space and a grill for cooking steaks, burgers, chicken and more. Captain Marc has been boating and fishing since his childhood and is now a licensed commercial boat operator. Originally from the state of Connecticut, he has fished for stripers in the river's estuary where it empties into the Long Island Sound. Ice fishing is one of the best ways to catch the big fish you missed during the open water months. We are drilling 6-8 holes per person through the ice, setting up traps with live bait, and running to those flags when they go up. While we are waiting for those fish to bite, we are learning how to jig and how to use sonar to find more fish. Species: bass, lake trout, crappie. Pike will sit and wait, lying still for long periods of time, just until their prey swims by. Pike are the fastest accelerating freshwater fish, so when they do go for the fly, it happens incredibly quickly exhibiting remarkable acceleration as they strike. For them, the hunt is always on. Hungry smallmouth and largemouth bass also love some of our big pike flies, and it is always a nice surprise pulling in a trophy bass on a heavy fly rod. We take fly anglers of all levels and build our experience around the guest. We recommend a full day trip to get acquainted with the technique required to land a fish like this on the fly. Five weeks out of the year are devoted to our Fishing Camps, February, June, and August. One of the core concepts at TBC Guides is instruction. When it comes to teaching fundamental skills to young anglers, it is so much more than just fishing. We cover water/ice safety, fishing etiquette, technique, regulations, and taking care of our fisheries. Each day we meet at a different fishing location, whether it is on the ice or on the boat. Refund cutoff: deposits become non-refundable 14 days before the scheduled fishing date. Inclement weather days will be rescheduled. The guide reserves the right to cancel any trip due to weather conditions or mechanical failures. If the guide cancels the trip for weather conditions or mechanical failures, the customer's deposit shall be refunded or credited to another reservation date if desired. Deposits are forfeited after one year. Curriculum: - Five days of fishing with full instruction on various techniques. - Primary target is big bass, with an introduction to tournament fishing. - Includes a day or two of jigging for lake trout and crappie. - If conditions allow, includes a day of fly fishing for trout and smallmouth. - Evening downtime includes making lures and custom fishing rods that go home with each angler. - Dinner with a Game Warden is an evening highlight. Lodging: Campers stay at Cardigan Mountain School in Canaan, NH, with breakfast and dinner in the dining hall and packed lunches each day. Transportation and safety: There will be in-house nighttime staff, an on-call nurse, and dedicated transportation to and from daily fishing locations.
